Some of the many Lies of Donald Trump by Robert Reich

Robert Reich put together a great list of the Lies that Trump has told and are now showing up by Trump’s agenda. What he said he was for and why a lot of his base voted for him, he’s reneging on now.

Here’s the list:

For Donald J. Trump supporters:

1. He called Hillary Clinton a crook.
You bought it.
Then he paid $25 million to settle a fraud lawsuit.

2. He said he’d release his tax returns, eventually.
You bought it.
He hasn’t, and says he never will.

3. He said he’d divest himself from his financial empire, to avoid any conflicts of interest.
You bought it.
He is still heavily involved in his businesses, manipulates the stock market on a daily basis, and has more conflicts of interest than can even be counted.

4. He said Clinton was in the pockets of Goldman Sachs, and would do whatever they said.
You bought it.
He then proceeded to put half a dozen Goldman Sachs executives in positions of power in his administration.

5. He said he’d surround himself with all the best and smartest people.
You bought it.
He nominated theocratic loon Mike Pence for Vice President. A white supremacist named Steve Bannon is his most trusted confidant. Dr. Ben Carson, the world’s greatest idiot savant brain surgeon, is in charge of HUD. Russian quisling Rex Tillerson is Secretary of State.

6. He said he’d be his own man, beholden to no one.
You bought it.
He then appointed Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education, whose only “qualifications” were the massive amounts of cash she donated to his campaign.

7. He said he would “drain the swamp” of Washington insiders.
You bought it.
He then admitted that was just a corny slogan he said to fire up the rubes during the rallies, and that he didn’t mean it.

8. He said he knew more about strategy and terrorism than the Generals did.
You bought it.
He promptly gave the green light to a disastrous raid in Yemen- even though all his Generals said it would be a terrible idea. This raid resulted in the deaths of a Navy SEAL, an 8-year old American girl, and numerous civilians. The actual target of the raid escaped, and no useful intel was gained.

9. He said Hillary Clinton couldn’t be counted on in times of crisis.
You bought it.
He didn’t even bother overseeing that raid in Yemen; and instead spent the time hate-tweeting the New York Times, and sleeping.

10. He called CNN, the Washington Post and the New York Times “fake news” and said they were his enemy.
You bought it.
He now gets all his information from Breitbart, Gateway Pundit, and InfoWars.

11. He called Barack Obama “the vacationer-in-Chief” and accused him of playing more rounds of golf than Tiger Woods. He promised to never be the kind of president who took cushy vacations on the taxpayer’s dime, not when there was so much important work to be done.
You bought it.
He took his first vacation after 11 days in office.
On the taxpayer’s dime.
And went golfing.

And that’s just the first month.

  1. Why The Russia Investigation Matters And Why You Should Care

That’s why a question asked at Tuesday’s House Intelligence Committee hearing about the Russia investigation with former Obama CIA Director John Brennan caught our attention:

“Please tell my constituents, my neighbors, why they should care — and not just in Washington, D.C., but in Washington state and Texas and Connecticut and points in between — and why should they care, and why do you care, sir?”

The question was posed by Washington Democrat Danny Heck, and it provoked a high-minded response.

Here’s what Brennan said in full:

“Well, for the last 241 years, the nation and the citizens have cherished the freedom and liberty upon which this country was founded upon. Many brave Americans have lost their lives to protect that freedom and liberty and lost their lives to protect the freedom and liberties of other peoples around the world. Our ability to choose our elected leaders, as we see fit, is, I believe, an inalienable right that we must protect with all of the resources and authority and power.

“And the fact that the Russians tried to influence resources and authority and power, and the fact that the Russians tried to influence that election so that the will of the American people was not going to be realized by that election, I find outrageous and something that we need to, with every last ounce of devotion to this country, resist and try to act to prevent further instances of that. And so, therefore, I believe, this is something that’s critically important to every American. Certainly, it’s very important for me, for my children and grandchildren to make sure that never again will a foreign country try to influence and interfere in the foundation stone of this country, which is electing our democratic leaders.”

  2. How a dubious Russian document influenced the FBI’s handling of the Clinton probe

A secret document that officials say played a key role in then-FBI Director James B. Comey’s handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation has long been viewed within the FBI as unreliable and possibly a fake, according to people familiar with its contents.

In the midst of the 2016 presidential primary season, the FBI received what was described as a Russian intelligence document claiming a tacit understanding between the Clinton campaign and the Justice Department over the inquiry into whether she intentionally revealed classified information through her use of a private email server.

The Russian document cited a supposed email describing how then-Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch had privately assured someone in the Clinton campaign that the email investigation would not push too deeply into the matter. If true, the revelation of such an understanding would have undermined the integrity of the FBI’s investigation. [more]

Sorry but I think all Congressmen/women should recuse themselves from voting as long as they hold stocks of Health Care Companies

There you go apologizing again when it’s not necessary…

    Donald Trump’s Base Is Shrinking
    By Nate Silver
    MAY 24, 2017

A widely held tenet of the current conventional wisdom is that while President Trump might not be popular overall, he has a high floor on his support…

…But the theory isn’t supported by the evidence. To the contrary, Trump’s base seems to be eroding. There’s been a considerable decline in the number of Americans who strongly approve of Trump, from a peak of around 30 percent in February to just 21 or 22 percent of the electorate now. (The decline in Trump’s strong approval ratings is larger than the overall decline in his approval ratings, in fact.) Far from having unconditional love from his base, Trump has already lost almost a third of his strong support. And voters who strongly disapprove of Trump outnumber those who strongly approve of him by about a 2-to-1 ratio, which could presage an “enthusiasm gap” that works against Trump at the midterms. The data suggests, in particular, that the GOP’s initial attempt (and failure) in March to pass its unpopular health care bill may have cost Trump with his core supporters…

  5. This written by a Conservative Republican….

The conservative mind has become diseased

By Michael Gerson Opinion writer May 25 at 7:32 PM
To many observers on the left, the initial embrace of Seth Rich conspiracy theories by conservative media figures was merely a confirmation of the right’s deformed soul. But for those of us who remember that Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity were once relatively mainstream Reaganites, their extended vacation in the fever swamps is even more disturbing. If once you knew better, the indictment is deeper.

The cruel exploitation of the memory of Rich, a Democratic National Committee staffer who was shot dead last summer, was horrifying and clarifying. The Hannity right, without evidence, accused Rich rather than the Russians of leaking damaging DNC emails. In doing so, it has proved its willingness to credit anything — no matter how obviously deceptive or toxic — to defend President Trump and harm his opponents. Even if it means becoming a megaphone for Russian influence.

The basic, human questions are simple. How could conservative media figures not have felt — felt in their hearts and bones — the God-awful ickiness of it? How did the genes of generosity and simple humanity get turned off? Is this insensibility the risk of prolonged exposure to our radioactive political culture? If so, all of us should stand back a moment and tend to the health of our revulsion. [more]

  6. @toniD:

This article tells me the DNC finally found a copy of “Pulling Your Head Out Your Butt for Dummies”.

Horseshit… the Dem Leadership didn’t evolve into some form of proto-progressive-politcus over night… this is the direct result of the Left finally, after 40 years, telling the centrist opportunists to go fuck themselves, and them realizing they have lost their low-cost water-bearers (aka the large majority of their activist base) to people like Bernie Sanders…

The Progressives have pushed the envelope from the grass-roots level simply by saying “no” and demanding more… and these establishment cowards are finally seeing they are running far behind popular opinion… and their ship is tasking water fast…

…it is too late for Pelosi and Schumer… they have missed the lifeboat… any changes in policy by them now will only be seen as ass-kissing Progressives… The Left will not accept their Leadership… the only way the Clintonites maintain power is by tearing down the Left… and in the end, that will be their demise… they will go down with their queen and they will lose it all…

3rd Way is dead… The Establishment Dems are done…. the world is moving Left… and all before Trump’s first 120 days….

Repeat after me… “I come to Bury Reagan…not to Praise him…”

  7. Still Going Down…

The HMS Hillary has become a Plague Ship… her still at the helm arrogantly believing and advising the Dems can ignore policy demands and simply run against Trump will end in catastrophe…

Democratic Party Image Dips, GOP Ratings Stable
    May 16, 2017

So far, Trump’s unpopularity as president has done little to erode Americans’ views of the GOP, perhaps because they were already quite negative. However, Americans are now less positive toward the Democratic Party than they were last fall.

The decline in Democratic Party favorability is mostly a result of lower ratings from self-identified Democrats. In November, 83% of Democrats had a positive opinion of the Democratic Party; now, 77% do. Independents are also slightly less positive toward the Democratic Party, while Republicans’ negative views of the opposing party are steady.

If your first reaction to a politician’s gross behavior is to blame the journalist for reporting it, then you are the problem.

Party tribalists on both sides agree on one wrongheaded & dangerous idea: journalists’ job is to suppress info that is bad for their party.

  10. I’m Not ‘There’ Yet….

What do you do when your Congress critters (and Presidential Candidates) tell you Single Payer won’t work? You tell them to go fuck themselves and do it anyway…

New Findings – SB 562 Would Cut State Spending on Healthcare by 18% – and Guarantee Care for All
    May 31, 2017

note that this study was paid for by the Nurses Unions… they have led the charge for Single Payer in CA every step of the way… the entirety of the US Labor movement would be in sorry shape without their strong leadership…

  11. Today I spoke with a lady for the first time since she underwent gallbladder surgery (cholecystectomy). First among the questions I asked was this, “How many thousands of dollars does gallbladder surgery cost these days?”

She laughed. She said, “You may not believe this. It cost me $500.”

I knew that she is a liberal person. I said, “Is that the yearly deductible for your Obamacare coverage?”

“So you are done with deductibles for the policy year?”

    “Yep.” She laughed.

“Be careful who you tell. Conservatives don’t like Obamacare success stories.”

She said, “I’m a taker! I’m a damn welfare taker!”

I laughed. Clearly we were on the same page. I said, “You probably chose to have gall stones, didn’t you? You saw the freebie and you grabbed it!”

She said, “I’m thinking about having cancer next. There’s nothing like a free ride.”

It is refreshing to have a conversation with someone who is not a shithead.
