Some of the many Lies of Donald Trump by Robert Reich

Robert Reich put together a great list of the Lies that Trump has told and are now showing up by Trump’s agenda. What he said he was for and why a lot of his base voted for him, he’s reneging on now.

Here’s the list:

For Donald J. Trump supporters:

1. He called Hillary Clinton a crook.
You bought it.
Then he paid $25 million to settle a fraud lawsuit.

2. He said he’d release his tax returns, eventually.
You bought it.
He hasn’t, and says he never will.

3. He said he’d divest himself from his financial empire, to avoid any conflicts of interest.
You bought it.
He is still heavily involved in his businesses, manipulates the stock market on a daily basis, and has more conflicts of interest than can even be counted.

4. He said Clinton was in the pockets of Goldman Sachs, and would do whatever they said.
You bought it.
He then proceeded to put half a dozen Goldman Sachs executives in positions of power in his administration.

5. He said he’d surround himself with all the best and smartest people.
You bought it.
He nominated theocratic loon Mike Pence for Vice President. A white supremacist named Steve Bannon is his most trusted confidant. Dr. Ben Carson, the world’s greatest idiot savant brain surgeon, is in charge of HUD. Russian quisling Rex Tillerson is Secretary of State.

6. He said he’d be his own man, beholden to no one.
You bought it.
He then appointed Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education, whose only “qualifications” were the massive amounts of cash she donated to his campaign.

7. He said he would “drain the swamp” of Washington insiders.
You bought it.
He then admitted that was just a corny slogan he said to fire up the rubes during the rallies, and that he didn’t mean it.

8. He said he knew more about strategy and terrorism than the Generals did.
You bought it.
He promptly gave the green light to a disastrous raid in Yemen- even though all his Generals said it would be a terrible idea. This raid resulted in the deaths of a Navy SEAL, an 8-year old American girl, and numerous civilians. The actual target of the raid escaped, and no useful intel was gained.

9. He said Hillary Clinton couldn’t be counted on in times of crisis.
You bought it.
He didn’t even bother overseeing that raid in Yemen; and instead spent the time hate-tweeting the New York Times, and sleeping.

10. He called CNN, the Washington Post and the New York Times “fake news” and said they were his enemy.
You bought it.
He now gets all his information from Breitbart, Gateway Pundit, and InfoWars.

11. He called Barack Obama “the vacationer-in-Chief” and accused him of playing more rounds of golf than Tiger Woods. He promised to never be the kind of president who took cushy vacations on the taxpayer’s dime, not when there was so much important work to be done.
You bought it.
He took his first vacation after 11 days in office.
On the taxpayer’s dime.
And went golfing.

And that’s just the first month.

I am tired of the people on the left who pretend the election is not over, or that Trump is not in office I have news for you:
Bush cheated in 2000, and we never had a President Gore.
Bush cheated in 2004, and we never had a President Kerry.

Republicans refused to cheat for McCain (at least as much as usual), and we had a President Obama.

Republicans refused to cheat for Romney, and we kept President Obama.

BOTH Republicans AND Democrats cheated in 2016, but Republicans are much better at it than Democrats, so we have a President Trump.

Next time, maybe the Democrats will put up a candidate that the Republicans refuse to cheat against. Or maybe the DNC will continue to be STUPID and CORRUPT. Their call.

Besides causing 24 million people to lose their health insurance over the next decade, and giving a $600 billion tax cut to the wealthy, repeal of the Affordable Care Act will also cause the loss of 1.8 million jobs over the next 5 years. The employment effects are from this smart analysis by Christian E. Weller and Gregg Gelzinis at the the Center for American Progress.

    What do you think?

Make sure your members of Congress know.

The GOP plan to repeal and replace the ACA will cost the U.S. economy 1.8 million jobs by 2022.

“Trust me, it will soon the Podesta’s time in the barrel,” Roger Stone, Trump’s confidante, mused on Twitter just before John Podesta’s emails were released. Stone has acknowledged communicating with the online persona Guccifer 2.0, who American officials believe is a front for Russian intelligence officials.

The FBI is scrutinizing Roger Stone as part of its investigation of possible Trump connections with Russian operatives who interfered in the 2016 election on behalf of Trump.

My guess is Stone will emerge as one of the key go-betweens linking Trump to the Russians. Keep your eye on him.

This is feeling more and more like Watergate. Except Watergate involved a robbery of the DNC headquarters. This involves a robbery of a national election.

    What do you think?

  4. ‘There’s a smell of treason in the air’: Historian Douglas Brinkley analyzes ‘mind-boggling’ Comey hearing

Monday’s House Intelligence Committee hearing with FBI Director James Comey is still causing shock waves throughout the political world, and historian Douglas Brinkley believes that it’s an unprecedented moment in American politics.

Speaking with the Washington Post, Brinkley said he could not ever recall a time when a senior federal law enforcement official publicly confirmed a major criminal investigation into the campaign of a sitting president.

“There’s a smell of treason in the air,” Brinkley said. “Imagine if J. Edgar Hoover or any other FBI director would have testified against a sitting president? It would have been a mind-boggling event.”

Brinkley went on to say that he has never seen a new president grow so unpopular so quickly, as Trump’s low approval ratings combined with the FBI’s investigation into his campaign’s ties with Russia have created massive storm clouds hanging over his presidency.

  5. Brave Lawyers Risk Everything To Tell The Truth: Trump Is Funneling Federal Money To His Own Businesses.

Concerned voters are getting a new glimpse into the elaborate scheme President Donald Trump is pulling on the American people.

Two leading American political analysts delivered a major blow to the Trump administration this week with a new report detailing the ways Trump is using his power as president to improve his own financial status.

“All kinds of accusations have been leveled against President Donald Trump, but few people have questioned his ability to find creative ways to pay himself with other people’s money,” said Ron Fein and Brianne Gorod, the authors of the new report.

The first and most obvious problem is that Trump is making frequent visits to his own hotels, restaurants, and resorts. In many cases, the federal government is making direct payments to Trump’s businesses.

U.S. News and World Report reports:

It’s not difficult to imagine the various ways in which the federal government may end up paying Trump’s businesses. In fact, it’s already happening.

  6. BREAKING: Trump Makes ‘Soviet-Style’ Move To Shake Up Government. This is FASCISM.

According to the Washington Post, President Trump is using hand-picked aides to politicize federal agencies. Trump is using political appointees to form a shadow government to influence policy decisions in government agencies.

These political appointees are tasked with keeping tabs on the agencies they’re inserted in. Their purpose to make make sure the agencies play ball with Trump’s agenda.

For instance, according to two EPA officials, Trump has a political appointee to watch over the EPA administrator Scott Pruitt. This man’s frequently offered unsolicited advice, despite holding his position for just four weeks.

Unanimous Supreme Court overturns a Gorsuch decision … in the middle of his confirmation hearing

Neil Gorsuch’s belief in reading the law as narrowly as needed to screw ordinary people reared its head again during his Supreme Court confirmation hearing Wednesday, but not because of anything Gorsuch himself said on Wednesday. No, the issue was something the entire United States Supreme Court said—that Gorsuch was wrong in a 2008 opinion dealing with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Ian Millhiser writes:

Under Gorsuch’s opinion in Luke P., a school district complies with the law so long as they provide educational benefits that “must merely be ‘more than de minimis.’”

“De minimis” is a Latin phrase meaning “so minor as to merit disregard.” So Gorsuch essentially concluded that school districts comply with their obligation to disabled students so long as they provide those students with a little more than nothing.

All eight justices rejected Gorsuch’s approach. IDEA, Chief Justice Roberts wrote, “is markedly more demanding than the ‘merely more than de minimis’ test applied by the Tenth Circuit.” Indeed, Roberts added, Gorsuch’s approach would effectively strip many disabled students of their right to an education.

Can you believe that??? All 8 judges rejected Gorsuch’s approach and they still want to put him on the SCOTUS?

  9. John McCain Just Gave Trump and Nunes Terrible News

By Peter Mellado Published on March 22, 2017

Senate Republicans have had enough of the amateur hour over at the House Intelligence Committee – specifically the committee chairman’s comically blatant and partisan maneuvering.

In a complete denunciation of fellow Republican Devin Nunes (CA) and his ability to conduct a fair and transparent investigation, Arizona Senator John McCain called for a new Select Committee to be formed to take over Congress’ inquiry into the President’s links to Russia and its campaign to undermine the 2016 Presidential Election.

Rep. Nunes made what Democrats are calling a “profound irregularity”Wednesday by taking what he claimed were legally acquired intercepts of members of Trump’s campaign team that he “recently confirmed” not to his committee, or to the FBI or NSA, but to reporters in a hastily organized press conference – and then to the President himself.

The Russia canard is a nothing-burger designed to divert attention from the shitty campaign run by Hillary Clinton. Alternately, the Russia canard is a nothing-burger designed to divert attention from [fill in the blank with any pet obsession held by any observer of any political stripe].

We are watching an actual disinformation conspiracy unfold. It was hatched and executed by a foreign power and, apparently, continues to operate across the globe. At the same time, wealthy useful idiots like Robert Mercer have been funding their own disinformation campaigns. See journalist Jane Mayer’s fine work for details.

Meanwhile, the perennial conspiracy theorists who are not wealthy continue to chase political contrails with butterfly nets.

It still amuses watching people who pretend to be smart get taken by the exact same play over and over and over again… People in the con game have a term for people like this, they call them ‘true-believers’… no matter how many times they get burned, they can never recognize the frame coming at them… the prevailing theory is the mark wants to believe in something so badly, that they will suspend disbelief, continually telling themselves “it will be different this time” , even after it has become obvious they have been played, again and again… The True-believer refuses to identify and accept the familiar pitch as a con and will even do the work for a sloppy con artist by actually filling in holes or weakness in the story with their own false logic and needful dreams… these people are addicts, and they actually con themselves…

They would save everybody a lot of time and pretense if they’d just mail the check to the con artist and be done with it…

    Meanwhile…

the Pentagon bean-counters are insisting they will need an extra $30B more to begin the ramp-up for the new cold-war fight against Russia and ISIS…

that “small” special military budget increase by itself represents almost half the discretionary spending budget of the Dept of Education…

    …suckers…

  17. Angry Locals Just Ruined Trump Kids’ Taxpayer-Funded Aspen Vacation

If you went to Aspen for a relaxing getaway this weekend, you probably ended up with more than you expected — unless you had expected the First Family and 100 Secret Service Agents on the taxpayer’s dime.

Despite ridiculing President Obama for every vacation related expense during his eight-year tenure, Trump has been spending tax dollars on leisure travel at more than ten times the rate of his predecessor.

This weekend, the families of Donald Jr., Eric Trump, Ivanka and Jared Kushner all descended on the city of Aspen with a massive 100-strong protection detail, frustrating residents and vacationers alike and leaving the press to marvel at a “mysterious” $12,000 ski rental agreement for the Secret Service.

Aspen residents found a productive outlet for the frustration however, taking to the streets to let the President’s family/advisors hear their frustrations with the regime’s assault on their community, the environment, and basic human decency.

  19. BREAKING: Trump Just Made The Most UN-PRESIDENTIAL Comment In US History – Impeach Him NOW!

Donald Trump can’t seem to open his mouth without saying something utterly ridiculous and un-Presidential.

At the National Republican Congressional Committee Dinner in Louisville on Monday, Trump said he believes most Americans are either stupid or abysmally educated. Referring to Abraham Lincoln, Trump blurted:

Great president. Most people don’t even know he was a Republican. Right? Does anyone know? Lot of people don’t know that. We have to build that up a little more. Let’s take an ad! Let’s use one of those PACs!

Come on! He’s addressing the National Republican Congressional Committee. This is a huge national organization made up of dyed-in-the-wool politicians and campaign workers who do nothing but raise money to get Republicans elected to the House of Representatives. But apparently Trump doesn’t think these die-hard Republicans—much less the millions of Republicans across the country—never heard that the GOP is commonly called “the Party of Lincoln.”

In fact, in 2012 Pew Research surveyed Americans to gauge their knowledge of our political system and asked which party Lincoln belonged to. Fully 55% said he was a Republican. Only a bit over a quarter said Democratic. [more]
