Our New BIG Worry in this Insane Election

The stress of this election this year is felt by almost everyone and not just in our Country. The stressor is the GOP Candidate for President, Donald Trump. He’s not only stressing out the other Candidates for President, the Democratic Party and recently the Republican Party, but also many Nations of the World. The only person, it seems, that is not stressed by Trump is the leader of Russia, Vladimir Putin. More on him later.

The New Big Worry is what Trump’s followers will do if and when Trump loses, which is a good bet right now. Trump has been whipping up his supporters from the start by attacking the minorities, Immigrants, Mexicans, Muslims, Women, Blacks. He’s even found a way to tear down Veterans, people with disabilities and anyone who is against him, recently the Media. And all this in front of cheering crowds of a mixture of people at his rallies. The mixture includes members of the KKK, White Supremacists and Neo Nazis along with a great amount of bigoted people who have been suppressed for years and have surfaced recently with our first Black President.

Now Mr. Trump is losing in the polls and is whipping up his supporters by telling them the election system is rigged. Because he is losing! His ego won’t allow him to see that he is the only reason he is losing this election. So at his rallies he blames Hillary Clinton and the Democrats and also, now, the Republicans who are all working against him. He’s whipping his supporters up to the point that his supporters are now threatening armed rebellion.

Trump wants his supporters to go to polling places and make sure that Buses full of immigrants, sent by Hillary or the Democrats, can’t vote at the polls.

From the Boston Globe: Warnings of Conspiracy Stokes Anger among Trump Faithful

At a time when trust in government is at a low point, Trump is actively stoking fears that a core tenet of American democracy is also in peril: that you can trust what happens at the ballot box.

His supporters here said they plan to go to their local precincts to look for illegal immigrants who may attempt to vote. They are worried that Democrats will load up buses of minorities and take them to vote several times in different areas of the city. They’ve heard rumors that boxes of Clinton votes are already waiting somewhere.

And if Trump doesn’t win, some are even openly talking about violent rebellion and assassination, as fantastical and unhinged as that may seem.

Here’s Bill Maher talking with Fareed Zacaria on CNN about Donald Trump and his followers:

What do you think? Will we have problems with Trump’s supporters after the election?

Give Donald Trump credit, as during the election, between his never-ending tweets and his now endless bits of news about the forming of his administration (and a pile of other things), Donald Trump is once again controlling the media. He once again, as during the election campaign, is managing to flood the screens of our world with that larger-than-life figure Donald Trump nearly 24/7. He’s the media-made man of the (endless) moment. It’s quite a knack he has. Amy Goodman and Denis Moynihan remind us of just what that meant, in media terms, in the campaign months when the candidate who might have had a shot at defeating him was almost never onscreen. Tom

“The networks have engaged in endless “mea culpas” in the election’s aftermath, contrite about their reliance on faulty polls. Rarely do you hear a news personality on television admitting that they failed miserably in covering the Sanders campaign. The U.S. media effectively iced out a major-party candidate who consistently held the largest rallies, even without a media megaphone.

“Donald Trump received blanket coverage. His every move, every tweet, almost all his speeches were covered across the networks. The U.S. corporate media made candidate Donald Trump. Estimates of the free airtime he received vary from $1 billion to as high as $3 billion.

“What about Bernie Sanders? The Tyndall Report analyzed major-network campaign coverage in 2015. In over 1,000 minutes of national broadcast television airtime devoted to all the campaigns, Donald Trump received 327 minutes, or close to one-third of all the campaign coverage. Bernie Sanders received just 20 minutes. Hillary Clinton got 121 minutes of campaign coverage, six times the amount Sanders received. “ABC World News Tonight” aired 81 minutes of reports on Donald Trump, compared with just 20 seconds for Sanders.

“While the media may not have been interested in Sanders’ message, the voters were. Despite the media blackout, Sanders won 23 primary contests and 46 percent of the pledged Democratic delegates.”

“I asked Sanders what he did to warrant a full 20 seconds of coverage on ABC, and he threw his head back, laughing out loud. “We had the misfortune of actually trying to talk about the problems facing America and providing real solutions,” he said, offering his take on the media’s failure. “Trump was tweeting out about how ugly or horrible or disgusting or terrible his opponents were, in really ugly terms. Perfect for the media. That is a great 12-second sound bite. But to talk about why the middle class is in decline or why we have massive levels of income and wealth inequality can’t be done in 12 seconds. And second of all, it’s not something that they are, frankly, terribly interested in.” While the media may not have been interested in Sanders’ message, the voters were. Despite the media blackout, Sanders won 23 primary contests and 46 percent of the pledged Democratic delegates.”

I met briefly with Bernie and his wonderful wife Jane yesterday when they were passing through town. Despite the dark cloud of Trump about to overtake the land, Bernie is charged up. “The good news,” he said, “is this will make more people into activists. No one who cares about America will be able to remain passive.” I hope he’s right.

Many of you ask me whether it’s likely the Electoral College will pick Hillary Clinton to be president rather than Donald Trump on December 19, when the Electors meet to officially choose our next president. Here are the three major arguments for why the Electors could choose Clinton, and my responses:

    1. She won the popular vote by 2.5 million people – more than 5 times the margin Al Gore had over George W. Bush in 2000. Shouldn’t that cause the Electors to change their minds?

Answer: No. The Electoral College has no constitutional authority to base its decision on the popular vote.

    2. But even so, the only reason the Electoral College has authority to thwart the will of the majority (say constitutional scholars) is to prevent people from becoming president who are demagogues, or are under the influence of foreign powers, or are plainly incompetent.

Trump fits all three categories. Not only is he an incompetent demagogue, he refuses to put his global holdings into a blind trust, which will create financial conflicts of interest. In the view of the chief ethics officers of the George W. Bush and the Obama administrations, this alone should cause the Electors to disqualify Trump from office. In addition, Article I, Section 9 of the Constitution prohibits office holders from enriching themselves with the “emoluments” of foreign officials – which is exactly what Trump is on the way to doing by suggesting foreign dignitaries stay at the new Trump International Hotel in Washington when they visit him in the White House, the profits of which go to Trump and his family.

Shouldn’t all this be enough to get enough “conscientious” electors to change their minds and vote for Hillary Clinton?

Answer: Extremely unlikely. These are subjective criteria. Once the Electoral College begins deciding that someone who’s duly elected president through our constitutional process will not become president on the basis of subjective criteria, there’d be no end to the contention that might ensue.

    3. Finally, recounts are underway in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania and, soon, in Michigan (despite Trump’s effort to stop these recounts — see below). If these recounts reverse the outcomes in those three states, Clinton wins the electoral votes she needs to become president. Is this likely?

Answer: Still no. Although the numbers seem small, it would be very surprising if Trump’s lead in these states (which, prior to the recounts, was cumulatively over 100,000) were reversed through recounts.

Given all this, the chance that Hillary Clinton becomes our next president instead of Donald Trump when the Electors cast their votes on December 19 is still very low. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t hope.

Trump’s “Calls” To Obama Just Leaked, And They’re Hilarious

n this hilarious clip, Conan O’Brien of the Conan late night show imagines what some of the phone calls between President Barack Obama and (sigh) President-elect Donald Trump might sound like. “A White House spokesman has confirmed that President Obama and Trump have been talking regularly. They didn’t give any more details, but we’ve gotten our hands on the audio from the calls. Don’t giggle. This is real!” jokes Conan before diving into the tapes.

Trump asks a number of questions that are very entertaining until one realizes that those may be legitimate questions that Trump may actually be asking. When you consider his three major diplomatic faux-pas this week, “what is Kazakhstan? Some kind of meat dish?” hits home in a rather unsettling fashion.

  9. ABC host hammers Pence over voter fraud claim: ‘Why is it refreshing to make false statements?’

Vice president-elect Mike Pence asserted on Sunday that Donald Trump was “entitled” to say that millions of Americans voted illegally — even if the claim was false.

During an interview on ABC’s This Week, host George Stephanopoulos reminded the future vice president of a recent tweet in which Trump declared that he lost the popular vote because of the “millions of people who voted illegally.”

“That claim is groundless,” Stephanopoulos pointed out. “There’s no evidence to back it up. Is it responsible for a president elect to make false statements like that?”

Pence defended himself by pointing to an unrelated 2012 Pew Center study on outdated voter registrations. However, the study’s author has said that he found no evidence of voter fraud. Politifact recently gave Trump’s team a “Pants of Fire” rating for linking the Pew Study to voter fraud.

“That statement is false,” the ABC host pressed. [more]

I Know Why Poor Whites Chant Trump, Trump, Trump

…There is an unavoidable question about places like Benton County, a question many liberals have tried to answer for years now: Why do poor whites vote along the same party lines as their wealthy neighbors across the road? Isn’t that against their best interests?

Ask a Republican, and they’ll probably say conservatives are united by shared positions on moral issues: family values, religious freedom, the right to life, the sanctity of marriage, and, of course, guns.

Ask a Democrat the same question, and they might mention white privilege, but they’re more likely to describe conservatives as racist, sexist, homophobic gun nuts who believe Christianity should be the national religion.

But what if those easy answers are two sides of the same political coin, a coin that keeps getting hurled back and forth between the two parties without ever shedding light on the real, more complicated truth?

I’m just a poor white trash motherfucker. No one cares about me.

The situation now is this: Rural states, who suck the most off the government teat, are deciding elections by an Electoral College stacked in their favor. On top of that, even though they are paying less per capita, they are forcing their draconian social agenda and stacking the SCOTUS for generations.

“I appreciate very much President Obama listening to the Native American people and millions of others who believe this pipeline should not be built. In the year 2016, we should not continue to trample on Native American sovereignty. We should not endanger the water supply of millions of people. We should not become more dependent on fossil fuel and accelerate the planetary crisis of climate change. 23. NC Gov. Calls Special Legislative Session, Setting Up Possibility of Court-Packing Power Grab

North Carolina Republican Gov. Pat McCrory is not a big fan of democracy. First, McCrory signed and championed HB2, a vicious anti-LGBTQ law designed to overturn local nondiscrimination ordinances. Then, McCrory’s legislative allies attempted to censor criticism of HB2—likely because a clear majority of voters oppose the bill and support its repeal. On Election Day, McCrory lost to Democratic Attorney General Roy Cooper, who opposes HB2. But he refused to concede, flinging baseless accusations of voter fraud seemingly designed to let the Republican-dominated legislature ignore the results and reinstall McCrory as governor. Now, as McCrory awaits the results of a partial recount that cannot possibly close his 10,000-vote deficit, he has decided to call a special legislative session in December.

The stated purpose? To address hurricane relief funds. But many Democrats fear a darker motive: to pack the state Supreme Court with new Republican justices before the GOP loses hold of the executive branch.

Currently, seven justices sit on the North Carolina Supreme Court. Before the election, the court split 4-3, with Republicans in the majority. On Election Day, however, voters ousted a conservative justice, replacing him with a Democrat and tipping the court to the left. Republicans already tried to prevent the progressive candidate from running, passing legislation that was ultimately ruled unconstitutional. Now rumors are flying around the capital that McCrory and Republican legislators will push through a bill expanding the court from seven to nine justices—allowing McCrory to appoint two new justices and maintaining Republican dominance over the judiciary. Psychologists who study moral development tell us that 1 and 2-year-olds often crave attention because they have no sense of separateness.

3 and 4-year-olds often lie to get their way because they lack moral understanding of the importance of telling the truth.

4 and 5-year-olds often bully other children because bullying is a way of asserting their dominance and making themselves feel more secure.

5 and 6-year-olds are often thin-skinned and vindictive toward peers who criticize them because they are at a stage when they have exaggerated concerns about the opinions of others toward them.

6 and 7-year-olds are often excessively narcissistic because they don’t understand their place in the world and haven’t yet developed the moral capacity for empathy.

It follows that Donald Trump’s emotional age is somewhere between 1 and 7. America and the world are about to be led by the most morally infantile man in the history of the Republic.

The Army said Sunday that it won’t allow the controversial Dakota Access Pipeline to cross under Lake Oahe in North Dakota. This is an important victory because if the pipeline isn’t finished by January, oil companies can renegotiate their contracts with the company building the pipeline — most of which were entered into before oil prices plummeted. Which means the company could go belly up.

But over the longer term, there’s still reason to worry. Trump has vowed support of such pipelines. Kelcy Warren, the chief executive of the company that owns the Dakota Access pipeline has been a major contributor to the Republican Party and to Trump’s campaign. Trump himself has owned a major stake in the pipeline. Although his spokesperson says he sold his shares, his most recent disclosure shows he owns a similar stake in Phillips 66, which owns 25 percent of the pipeline.

Don’t for a moment believe Trump’s financial interests won’t affect the decisions he makes after January 20th when he becomes President.

Here is the simple truth. Trump’s reactionary agenda will not be defeated in the halls of Congress. It will be defeated when millions of Americans, at the grassroots level, come together to oppose xenophobia and attacks on the immigrant community. It will be defeated when we stand together against racism, sexism, homophobia and Islamophobia. It will be defeated when working people throughout our country – black, white, Latino, Asian-American and Native American – demand a government and economy which works for all, and not just the one percent. Our political task now is to educate, organize and mobilize.

not saying ignore it all… we all know there are plenty of European Neo-Nazi douchebags to justify serious concern… but also knowing that half of the rhetoric is bullshit narrative propaganda being amplified by the politicians and media who service the Bankers just trying to scare you, might make it all a little easier to handle…
